2 crazy days of hunting: Day 2 Morning
This is the first part of the second installment of the crazy days of hunting, if you missed the first one click here. The day started off early, I believe the alarm was set for 6:30. Granted it's just a short walk out to the slaughtering grounds. We began by setting out the 3 dozen decoys and getting settled into the tree line. This is the same spot as the BDB Staff Meeting which if you read worked out pretty well last time so we had our hopes up. The morning started off pretty nice. Around 7:45am we had a single coming in for the decoys. After some professional calling by Maddox he was locked up and coming. The adrenaline is running hard, Maddox says “Take Him” we both step out and from one pull of my trigger he was down. Maddox had an assist on the books for this one and helped me put him down for good. After a quick retrieval we were back in the tree line awaiting the next flock.
Now both of us had thought one down at quarter of 8 this ought to be a good morning. Well this is the point in the story where I can hit the fast forward button. We had flocks flying over us just about the rest of the morning. Little did we know they weren’t having anything to do with us or the decoys. Flock after flock came honking over and by 10:45 not one goose had dropped in after that. Off in the distance we could here a couple groups of hunters and they were getting some action. Well at least someone was. About this time we decided we were going to call it a day. Packed up the decoys and our one lonely goose and headed for the house. At least we didn’t get skunked. Stay tuned for the afternoon story.
